5 Things Millennials are Tired of Hearing
It doesn’t take a genius to see that millennials are becoming the target for countless jokes and accusations. These jokes are centered on different characteristics that they think, “sum up” our generation. I think if you were to ask an unbiased outsider, they would assume that millennials are the cause of a lot of the problems that we’re facing in society.
YOU SPEND TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR PHONE
This is one of the things that we hear all of the time, and quite frankly, it’s getting really old. Everyone above the age of 12 has a smartphone. Everything that we do can be done on our smartphone. Sure, instead of sitting in awkward silence, we are going to be on our phone. What would you rather us do? Stare at 15-year-old magazines in the waiting room?
Besides, I have to spend 4 hours on Facebook every day just to delete those FarmVille requests that you keep sending me Susan!
WHY DO MILLENIALS ALWAYS MOVE BACK INTO THEIR PARENTS HOUSE
There has been an increase in the number of college graduates that move back into their parent’s home after they graduate college. A lot of the older generation likes to say it’s because we are lazy or scared of entering the workforce. Sure, in some cases that might be true, but in the majority of cases it’s DEBT!
As much as we would love to buy a home, we are up to our eyeballs in student loan debt. We can barely afford to eat every night, much less pay a mortgage payment as soon as we graduate college. All of those jobs that require 10 years of experience are excellent paying positions, but we don’t qualify for those.
We all know that it’s every college graduates dream to move back in with mom and pops, right?
YOU’RE ALL SNOWFLAKES
This is something that we hear a lot, especially when it comes to our generation protesting. Everyone thinks that we need our “safe spaces” or that we’re offended by everything. I’m sorry that we don’t go out of our pay to use derogatory terms and that we care about other people’s feelings.
Sure, your generation might have been “tougher” – but it also had segregation and several wars… so….
EVERYONE IS ENTITLED
“All of the young people are so entitled” – said anyone over 40 ever. This is one that grinds the gears of most millennials and for a good reason. Being “entitled” is another way of saying, we want what we deserve. Just like every other single generation since the beginning of time. We work hard; we want to be paid for it. We went to college; we want a well-paying job. I don’t think it’s outrageous to believe that we should be given what we deserve.
Just because we didn’t walk 4 miles in the snow both ways barefoot doesn’t mean that we don’t want to be paid for our efforts.
YOU’RE THE “EVERYONE WINS” GENERATION
We’ve all heard the participation trophy complaints. They are the butt of jokes all across the nation. Those Baby Boomers love to talk about how when they were kids, losers didn’t get trophies. Yeah, well… now look how disgruntled and bitter you are? Maybe if you had gotten an award when you were 10, you wouldn’t be so angry about little children being happy.
