Brad Paisley Crushes It in Hartford, CT with Weekend Warrior Tour
Country star Brad Paisley makes an American Sunday night feel like a Saturday after a stellar performance at the Xfinity in Hartford, CT.
It was a perfect night for a country concert this past weekend in Hartford, CT. The air was just right, a cool breeze, not too humid. A good night to crack open a cold one with your girl (or guy) and listen to some good music and that’s exactly what Brad Paisley fans did this past Sunday night.
Paisley is currently on tour in support of his latest studio release Love & War and fans were treated to healthy dose of new tracks and old favorites. He starts the night with his latest single “Last Time for Everything” which featured an interesting intro tape of “Knight Rider” and “Stranger Things” theme songs before kicking into gear. The end of the song also featured a segue into the Prince classic “Purple Rain”.
Between the first three songs alone fans are already treated to several mesmerizing guitar solos on his signature Telecaster guitars. Paisley knows how to get the twang just right and does so without skipping a note. The country guitarist struts his stuff across the stage and out on the catwalk giving fans an up close look at his fingers flying a mile a minute.
Paisley then launches into the crowd favorite “Online”, it would be the first of many laughs during the evening as Paisley played other humorous hits such as “You Were My First (Cousin)”, “Celebrity” (which feature clips from the comedy hit South Park), and “Grey Goose Chase”. But just like his music, he also showcases a serious side as he went into one of his newer songs “Love and War” which featured a backing track of John Fogerty (who plays and sings on the track). After the song, he brings several soldiers on stage and salutes them for their service while the audience gives them a standing ovation.
The band then launches in to “American Saturday Night” and Brad brings one of his openers, Chase Bryant, on stage to join in for some guitar solo swapping fun on the track. Paisley then goes into “I’m Still A Guy” and brings Dustin Lynch on stage for the track. During the song, Paisley spots a fan’s sign saying “I’m 60 can I get a selfie Brad?”. He seeks approval from the audience who gives a loud cheer takes the woman’s phone. “You’re not 60″ he says ” You look about 45″. He brings her phone on stage and proceeds to swipe through it. “Let’s see what apps the 60 year olds are using these days” and goes through reading aloud the various apps ranging from JC Penny, AARP, and Kohls. “I suppose it’s ok for a 60 year old to be on Tinder” he says. “We are not here to judge”. It’s obvious Paisley is practicing his comedic talents for his upcoming Netflix comedy special premiering Aug. 15th.
After the song, Paisley gets sentimental and heartfelt with his love songs “Then” and “She’s Everything”. Love was in the air during the two songs and various couples held each other and swayed to the music during the summer night. If there’s one thing Paisley excels at, it’s perfectly placing his songs to have a great balance of sentiment and comedy during the night.
The highlight of night perhaps was Paisley’s other ballad “Whiskey Lullaby”. The original track features singer Alison Krauss sharing vocals. Paisley brings out opener singer/guitarist Lindsay Elle who excels at taking on Krauss’s vocals. In addition, Elle and Paisley take on duet guitar solo at the end of the track makes Elle an artist to watch out for.
Paisley keeps the mood going with “I’m Gonna Miss You” and the emotional first single from Love & War “Today” and closes out the night with the crowd favorite “Alcohol” where he’s joined by all three of his openers making the track a perfect, rambunctious closer.
