Featured Artist: Antonia Marquee
Antonia Marquee is a natural born artist who is up and coming in the music industry. She writes her own music, produces her own beats, and is ready to show the world how important love is through what she does best- singing! The young L.A. resident has recently been discovered through Fiverr– a website where she is able to put forth her musical talent- by well-known Youtuber, Shane Dawson. Since featuring Marquee in one of his Youtube videos, her following has increased rapidly, and people are beginning to hear the singer’s message of humanity, love, and truth.
M365: So, you’re a pretty new up and coming artist. You’ve been using the website Fiverr for more experimental musical growth, by which well-known Youtuber Shane Dawson found you on! That’s so cool! When did you first start actually producing and posting your own music?
Antonia: I’ve been making my own original music since 2013. I released an album called ‘Superwoman’, which was my nickname at the time because I had lost 170 pounds after weighing 310 pounds! My boyfriend, The Marine Rapper, filmed my music videos for me at that time as well.
M365: Your sound is very similar to that of R&B and pop. What kind of sound/genre are you aiming for as you continue on your musical career? Who are your musical inspirations?
Antonia: I LOVE when songs have mixed genres. I would describe my music as R&B/Rock/Neo-Soul! My biggest music inspiration is actually Jason Mraz. He is what got me into singing in 2008. I also draw inspiration from Justin Timberlake, Frank Ocean, Julia Michaels, OneRepublic, Queen, Missy Elliot…I could go on forever. I like everyone, haha!
M365: What is the creative process like when you’re creating new content? What’s your inspiration, especially for the current tracks you’ve already released?
Antonia: I really want to make an impact with my music. My goal is always to spread the message of love being taken seriously. I write the topics that I write to set an example for everyone to see that yes, I am young, but I am not one for being heartless and not caring about love. I take it very seriously, and it is the most important thing to me. Love is so powerful and I just want others to see that, so that hopefully, people would get hurt less. So, I write down what my heart feels in a little notebook that my mommy, Tracy, gave me for Christmas, I produce my own beats, and I don’t try to be anyone other than me.
M365: I understand that you have a couple tracks out, including Calm Down (Lullaby) and True Love. Can we expect future content to sound similar to these tracks? Can we expect a future debut album or EP anytime soon?
Antonia: Yes, I will always speak on the topic of love. I always try to make the track unique, like something different than what is out there at the time. I do want to eventually do a more upbeat song. I just plan on releasing more singles, as well as a “Calm Down (Lullaby)” remix with my boyfriend The Marine Rapper!
M365: What is the message you are hoping to convey to your audience with your music?
Antonia: I want everyone to know that loving is cool. Like, actually being a good person is cool. You don’t have to be hateful, be a savage, or act like you don’t care about anything. Treat people how you want to be treated. Love is such a beautiful thing that we should embrace more. Loyalty, commitment, and faithfulness is wonderful. Taking care of another person’s heart is amazing. Love as hard as you can, and support love being taken seriously.
M365: Lastly, what was it like working with Shane Dawson and Ryland Adams? Spill the tea!
Antonia: Haha, they were so kind to me, like friends. We had so much fun filming the crazy videos at their house. I got to chill with Cheeto (his cat) a lot, which was amazing because I love cats. It really was great! I’ve watched Shane’s videos since the beginning, so it was all so surreal.
Antonia’s music is currently available through both iTunes and Spotify.
