With lyrics that speak to joy, pain and real-world experience, coupled with her soul-soothing melodies, Memphis singer-songwriter Marci Coleman dishes out a delightful mix of soulful pop worship reaching people from every walk of life, whom she hopes will hear themselves in her music and be encouraged that, even in our brokenness, we all have the hope of a Savior.

M365: What’s your songwriting process?
Marci: My songwriting process is ever changing, but if I have any type of inspiration randomly, I grab my phone and voice memo it immediately. Most of my songs are written when I’m sitting on my bed playing guitar or worshipping on the piano. I always ask myself, “What is the message that people need to hear today?” It’s also easy for me to write in those moments when I’m feeling a certain way emotionally: something sad, or good has happened in my life or in the lives of others- when I’m feeling down about a certain situation, or in the moments of needing something to believe in. I soak in all those emotions and release it through song- and it’s truly the best exercise any songwriter should do.
M365: Which songs do you perform most frequently?
Marci: My top three originals: Wanted, Nothing Like Your Love, and Anyway. But I love performing all that I’ve written, depending how long of a set I get.
M365: Do you ever play any covers?
Marci: Love playing covers! Depending on the venue, I’ll play Taylor Swift or Tori Kelly. Other than that, I’ll always do covers of the top worship songs or CCM songs for church gigs.
M365: What do you think about downloading music online?
Marci: Downloading music illegally is just straight up thievery. Don’t do it. Artist and songwriters deserve every cent that we can, and especially if we work our butts off for it!
M365: Where do you see yourself in the next couple of years?
Marci: I see me touring the country with my music! I’d also like to have some Christian Radio play too. I hope to be signed by a label soon, so that I can be paying off student loans with my music and doing it full time. I’m also married, so I hope that my husband and I will be doing music together as well as starting a family.
M365: Who were your Day 1 Supporters?
Marci: My husband, my family and friends. All day every day. They are my backbone and I simply could not do any of this without their constant cheerleading!
