Foo Fighters Release New Song + Video “The Sky is a Neighborhood”
Back in June, the Foo Fighters dropped a new song “Run” and followed that with the announcement of a new album, Concrete and Gold, to be released this September. This week, the Foos dropped another new song, “The Sky is a Neighborhood”, along with a video directed by frontman Dave Grohl. The video also stars the singers’ daughters.
The album’s first single “Run” stands as one of the Foos’ heaviest songs to date. It was classic Foos style with heavy distorted, Grohl’s screech, and pounding drums from Hawkins. However, the band’s latest single shows the Foos taking a different approach to a rock hit. The song has a footstomping groove in the vain of Imagine Dragons. It’s a different sound for the band, however, the music still makes you move in all the right ways. While it might surprise fans with different style approach to the song, the classic Foo elements are still prevalent on track. It’s less heavy than “Run”, but fans shouldn’t write this one off by any means.
Grohl stated in an interview that the idea for the song came to him while lying down and looking up at the night sky in Hawaii. The song, lyrically, is one of the most interesting Foos songs to date. Grohl stated the idea of the song talks about atoms and how it’s all traceable to the beginning of the universe.
The video, directed by Grohl, features the band on the roof of a house while two girls (Grohl’s daughters) read a storybook the features the lyrics. The sky, in the video, then shines with hundreds of lights? Stars? UFOs? That’s for the viewer to decide.
When asked about the video, Grohl stated it was based off a dream he had 20yrs ago about the night sky bursting into hundreds of UFOs and projected films of creation, evolution, and new territories. Grohl certainly directs the video to fit his trippy dream.
Concrete and Gold will be released Sept. 15th. You preorder your copy as well as various deluxe editions of the album here.
