How to Define Feminism.
A true definition for feminism does not exist. There are many avenues of feminism, one not being more or less accurate than the other. What I’ve gathered is that feminism is a state-of-mind unique to each person. Feminism is open to women and men, children and adults, young and old, heterosexual or homosexual. Feminism is a movement that is ongoing, progress has been made in this lifetime, but improvements still need to happen. There are clear-cut misappropriations, and then there are foggy correlations between right and wrong that apply to women empowerment and equality.
A prime example of how women can be lead down a different path would be the workplace. Women tend to work harder for less money and recognition. They are passed over for promotions and pushed to the side when it comes to process management. Ideas from women are reassigned to other people, because who wants to give a woman credit? Working mothers are especially prone to ill treatment. Don’t let a working mom take time to tend to her kids or she will be labeled unruly and an attendance problem will be assigned to her. The workplace, among other areas of life, is unbalanced when it comes to fair treatment for women.
I think loving one another and empowering one another is the best way to be feminist. The definition is within you, it’s how you portray the word or movement.
The good news: we are used to it. We adjust and deal with the radical treatment. We throw our hair in a ponytail and go for it. No matter what it is, we go for it. If we fail, we have to deal with it. If we succeed, we have to deal with the other things that are failing because we are successful in a specific area, but we deal with it. If someone uses us or mistreats us, we deal with it. We always conquer and we always move forward. It’s in our souls to be strong and to work harder to seem stronger than those around us, even if we feel dead inside. Those are just ways we deal with it.
All of this is feminism. There isn’t one direction that a person can go that is the “wrong” type of feminism. It is a movement to help women adjust better, to give equal opportunity, to show women they can be strong, tough, and emotional, and not be considered irrational because of their emotion. The ideas behind feminism vary from person to person and can change every day. If you want to be in a relationship or have a traditional type marriage, you can still be a feminist. If you go against the grain or use the word bitch, you can still be a feminist. If you judge another woman or another person, you can still be a feminist. There isn’t a right or wrong way to be a feminist, you just have the ideas in your mind and you go with it.
What we can do as humans is put all judgment aside and just be. I think loving one another and empowering one another is the best way to be feminist. The definition is within you, it’s how you portray the word or movement. Feminism is defined by your actions as you embrace it. No matter how you do it, just do it and embrace the movement.
