Lipstick & Lunges
With anything that might bring a slight smile to your face, maybe a little happiness…good ol’ controversy is also included. It’s just normal I guess. Regardless of how much you love it, there’s always going to be someone who thinks otherwise. & ‘TIS ANNOYING & FRUSTRATING. But remember, if it was not worth something, if it didn’t have some sort of force or power or influence, then no one would care. So anything with controversy, most definitely has value; we gave it value when we decided to pick a fight. Does that make sense at all?
You are probably wondering what any of that has to do with lipstick or lunges. Well, IT’S GOT EVERYTHING TO DO WITH IT.
I swear, make-up is one of the most controversial topics out there. There are people walking on this planet that for some odd reason think it’s okay for them to tell you that you wear too much make-up or too little or that you wear colors that are too wild or too subtle…like GET OUTTA HERE. Stop telling me how to live my life. I do not care that I’m a redhead who wears red eye shadow. It’s art. There’s no rules or regulations or an opinion of a pile of bones&organs (who claims to know STUFF) that’s going to make me line my eyelids in a particular fashion. Make-up is a form of self-expression, thus I find it essential to express yourself without considering the reactions of anyone but yourself.
Italics overload ooh la la
Another misconception I would like to put an end to. Most of us do not wear make-up to impress you. There is absolutely no waaaayyy I would invest money in my Too Faced Palette for you, when I know for a fact that your 20/20 vision is still not prime enough to tell the difference between $50 eye shadow & “eye shadow” from the the $1 section at Claire’s. It’s all for me. Paper got boring, so I found a new blank canvas to paint- my face. & yes, sometimes we do use make-up to cover what we deem as imperfect (even though I believe our flaws are what make us beautiful individuals..they are what make you you & me me). & regardless of the reason behind why a person chose to wear mascara, lipstick, foundation, whatever on this fine Monday… none of your business.
It’s make-up. That’s it. It’s no big deal. Treat it how you would treat artwork at a museum. With admiration & respect. You would not go up to a painting & smack talk it for looking a bit different..out of the ordinary…intricate. It would probably capture your attention, your wonder. & you would probably lose track of time as your eyes laid fixed on it, contemplating what the hidden meaning is. & I believe make-up is the same.
Be courteous to its artist.
Now now nooowww, how does any of this have to do with lunges?
IT’S GOT EVERYTHING TO DO WITH IT.
The amount of disapproving looks & words that are shot at those who wear make-up to the gym… it’s disgusting. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with rocking some mascara when you are working out. It looks cute on you. So don’t feel like you have to take it off. Does it make you feel good? Does it give you the perseverance you need to finish your cardio? Did you nail that cat eye this morning & just want to show it off/ keep it alive for as long as you can? Then trash the make-up remover wipes in your hand & SCREW IT. Get your shoes on, grab your keys, & go kill those lunges with the most GOD DAMN FLASHY VIBRANT ECCENTRIC lipstick you’ve got decorating your lips.
Yes, make-up and sweat combined is not amazing for your skin’s well-being & you might discover can cause acne every now & then. But what’s even worse is feeling like you can’t walk through those gym doors because your eyebrows aren’t colored in. Your body is your body. & if you’re eager to lift weights, but are intimidated to go bare-faced…SCREW IT. Wear your foundation. No, wait, don’t wear it… SHOWCASE THAT SHIT. Turn heads with your glitter, blind eyes with your highlight, wear your confidence like you wear your smile– with genuine content.
This is turning into such a pep talk.
But it’s insane to me that people get sooo much crap thrown at them for wearing make-up. Like why waste your energy on something that doesn’t even affect you. L E T I T B E.
I want to wrap this up with a little shout out to my current go-to gym make-up. Yes, I do wear lipstick when I do my lunges. Yes, I am proud of that. I dig the lipstick & I dig the sweat, so why not dig both of them at once? Currently, I wear Apple Cider by LipSense. (Get it at @runningwithcolors_ on Insta or via Facebook at www.facebook.com/groups/runningwithcolors). It overcomes the blood, sweat, & tears of a work out the same way my body does– coming out of battle stronger than ever.
