Makeup Revolution: A Beauty Blogger’s Haul
Hello, fellow makeup addicts!
2017 has been a great year in the beauty industry so far! We have seen lots of new makeup and skincare releases and its fair share of controversy and debates between brands! One such brand that faced some criticism was Makeup Revolution when it created a very similar palette to Kat Von D’s Shade and Light, calling it Light and Shade. This raised lots of commentary and discussion on social media as well as publicity for both brands, with supporters on both sides.
I don’t intend to comment on this debate myself. However, it did result in me reading up on both brands, particularly Makeup Revolution which is well known for its dupes and reasonably priced cosmetics. Makeup Revolution is one of many brands created and run by Tam Beauty. Tam Beauty has over 27 years’ experience in the cosmetics business. It develops and manufactures brands for the cosmetics, skincare and haircare industry. Their aim is to deliver exciting high quality, cruelty-free products at affordable prices, with shipping worldwide. They launched Makeup Revolution in 2014, a mere 3 years ago. It is now one of the most popular high street makeup brands. They also own Freedom Makeup and I Heart Makeup to name a couple, both of which are also going strong.
Up to now, I had not really tried much in the way of Makeup Revolution products. However, this year I started to follow the brand and its range online and through regular visits to Superdrug! I realised that it actually had a good offering for makeup lovers and budding makeup artists so I decided to purchase a few things to test them for myself. Luckily, at the time I placed my order, there was also an offer online to receive a free goody bag so I received a whole host of extra products as well!
This is the array of makeup I bought/received:
I was so excited to try all of these lovely products! Working from top to bottom I was sent:
Makeup Revolution Skin Kiss Highlighter in Ice Kiss
Makeup Revolution The One Blush/Contour Stick
Makeup Revolution Protection Palette in Medium/Dark
Freedom Pro 12 Secret Rose eyeshadow palette
Makeup Revolution Nail Polish in Maybe Tonight
Makeup Revolution Salvation Intense Lacquer in All That I Have Inside
Makeup Revolution Lip Ultra Nude Collection 2017
Freedom Makeup London Pro Studio Radiance Tonic
Makeup Revolution The One Foundation
Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe Kit Matte in Reign
Makeup Revolution Tinted Lip Balm in Electric Kiss
I Heart Makeup Mini Gem Brush Set
Makeup Revolution Euphoria Palette in Bare
Freedom Nail Varnish Pro in Impact
Makeup Revolution Single Eyeshadow in Touch Me
Since receiving everything, I have tested the products at least twice and I have swatched the palettes and the lip products. My review of each item I have tried is below:
The Ice Kiss Highlighter is gorgeous! I am a huge highlighter fan and I have a big collection to choose from without this one but I am so glad I bought it. The pigmentation is excellent and it can be applied subtly or built up to create a more strobe-like effect. As the name implies, the colour shows up as an ice white/silver and will work on all skin tones. The swatch is below at point 3 at the bottom.
The One Blush/Contour stick is also a lovely product. Personally, I have not used it as a blusher as it is a little darker than I would normally use but as a contour stick, it works really well. It can be blended easily to create a natural shadow or more heavily to provide more definition. It also works well as a cream bronzer! The swatch for it is below at point 6 and it is the very last one.
The Protection palette is a mix of 3 different concealer shades, a setting powder, a bronzer, a blusher and a highlighter. I have tested the concealers on myself and clients and they provided good coverage and applied smoothly. The setting powder was also very good for setting the concealer and foundations. The remaining bronzer, blusher and highlighter are very similar to those found in the Euphoria palette (below). They are reasonably pigmented, easy to blend out and compliment a good range of skin tones.
The Secret Rose palette is a pretty collection of pastel pinks, nudes, blushes and purples. Hopefully, you can see from the swatches that each eyeshadow is pigmented, and they are all blendable with very little fallout. This is a perfect palette for more natural makeup and for bridal looks and will work well with most eye colours!
The Nail Polish in Maybe Tonight is a deep grey/almost black colour with a hint of sparkle. I have not worn this as yet given the time of year but will definitely wear it in the Autumn and Winter!
The Salvation Intense Lacquer in All That I Have Inside and the Ultra Nude Lip Collection 2017 are some of my favourite lip products now! The Lacquer is a sparkly pale orange and is more like a gloss than a lacquer, as you can see at the top of the swatches. It works like a lip topper over another lipstick or liquid lipstick or it can be worn alone for a subtle shimmer on the lips! I have worn it both ways and it looks great in each case, does not dry out the lips and lasts a little while before needing a top up.
As for the Nude Lip Collection, all three colours are lovely! On the swatches, they are 2nd, 3rd and 4th from the top and as you can see they range from a natural pink to a bare nude. All of them are very comfortable to wear and do not dry the lips like some liquid lipsticks can. They also last for hours!
The Radiance Tonic is another good find! It works like a skin toner to exfoliate and even out skin tone for a clearer, brighter complexion. It contains Glycolic Acid, Ginseng and Aloe Vera, and was very gentle on the skin, leaving it smooth and soft and lightly fragranced!
The One Foundation was part of the goody bag and was sadly too dark a shade for me to use on myself. It has however gone into my makeup kit for when I do makeup on clients! It is a liquid foundation and provides light to medium coverage and can be mixed with other foundations to create new shades.
The Retro Luxe kit in Reign consists of a matte liquid lipstick and a matching lip liner. This is one of my favourite products from Makeup Revolution and I have since bought two more kits! I love the fact that the lip liner matches the lipstick perfectly and glides onto the lips without pulling on the delicate skin. It also stays in place for ages and doesn’t bleed outside the lip line. The matte liquid lipstick is equally gorgeous, smoothing onto the lips easily and setting without drying them. It doesn’t budge for hours either! The swatches for the lipstick and the lipliner are above at point 5 after the Nude Lip swatches.
The Tinted Lip Balm is a really hydrating clear balm with a bright pink tint in the centre. You can’t buy it online or in store unfortunately so once it’s run out there doesn’t appear to be a way of buying another one! This is a shame as it is one of the nicest tinted lip balms I have ever tried! My lips felt soft and moisturised for hours after applying it and whilst the pink colour looks very bright in the dispenser it actually applies as a sheer pink flush on the lips. If you can get hold of one of these you definitely should! The swatch for it is above at point 5 just before the Contour Stick swatch.
The Gem Mini Brush set was a great little addition to the goody bag! I love collecting makeup brushes for personal and business use and because these were mini they are perfect for travelling. The set consists of a powder/blusher brush, a detail brush and an eyeshadow brush, all of which are good quality and look really funky! The brush bristles are very soft and fluffy and easy to use.
The Euphoria palette was one of my purchases and contains a blusher, bronzer, highlighter and 6 neutral eyeshadows. It’s the perfect palette to keep in your handbag when you need to apply makeup on the go and the colours all work well together and allow for almost bare to a natural smoky eye look. I have tested everything in the palette and the colour payoff was very good and easy to apply and blend.
This Freedom nail varnish is perfect for Spring and Summer! It’s a lovely glossy salmon pink shade which will stand out against most skin tones and when I tested it, it coated the nail well and did not chip quickly after application. I had not tried nail varnish by Freedom before this but I would consider buying them from Freedom again now!
The single eyeshadow in Touch me is the ideal base for creating an eyeshadow look. It can, of course, be worn on its own and will blend into most skin tones but I found it perfect for my base before I start applying other eyeshadow colours. The eyeshadow isn’t super pigmented but provides enough coverage to even out the eyelid skin tone and brighten the area slightly. It can be built up if you want the colour to stand out more, but for my purposes, it does the job.
Want to Try it for Yourself?
That’s my Makeup Revolution haul! It turned out to be a mixture of Tam Beauty brands once I received the goody bag, but I’m not complaining! I liked everything I received and can’t fault the quality, prices, or the service. Without a doubt, I am a Makeup Revolution fan now and will continue to follow the brand and any new releases. I particularly like them because I can use it to stock up my business makeup kit easily and affordably! If you are new to Tam Beauty and Makeup Revolution, you should definitely take a look at everything they offer – check out the website here. There’s actually a sale on now so what better time to stock up?
