Motivation and How to Maintain It Through Anything
Throughout life there are many events that promote and diminish motivation. There are people out there advertising they have the secret or a process to maintain your motivation. Despite all of these, in order to motivate yourself, you have to look within. Obviously there is no one size fits all, but there are steps you can take to position yourself for success!
Set Small Goals
When you are going about life, typically you will have a sense of direction. Beyond the direction, you may have one to two large goals you are working towards. Instead of focusing on the large goal, set small goals that continually put you in a position to move closer to the final destination. More often people aim for the end goal and burn out because they fail to see the progress. By setting the small goals, it allows you to see progress and achieve tangible results.
Fall In Love With The Process
If you are working towards an over arching goal, be sure to love the process. America tends to promote luxury but fails to mention the work required to obtain that end destination. While setting small goals is wonderful, be sure you enjoy the process as well. This turns the small goals into fun and achievable tasks that allow you to get lost in the process while progressing steadily towards the final destination. When focusing on the end goal and not the process, you may find you are not as motivated as previously thought. Take time to ensure you are in love with the process and this will help maintain your motivational levels.
Fulfillment is crucial and often missed in lieu of luxury or material items. Obviously this does not apply to everyone, but it happens more times than not. Commonly, you may hear of people going to school because their parents want them to obtain a certain degree. As with any goal, fulfillment is key to maintain motivation levels. Set small goals, fall in love with the process, and ensure it is fulfilling.
Another aspect to consider is you have time, so begin to utilize patience. Be patient in the macro but quick in the micro. Set the small goals and obtain tangible results, promoting motivation. Fall in love with the process and find motivation in moving closer to your goals. Motivation will continue to build as you go deeper in the process. Lastly, ensure what you are doing is bringing fulfillment in your life. Without fulfillment, the process will become mundane and diminish motivation. There are no clear cut paths or methods, but these will certainly give you an edge. Implement these steps in your life and I can assure you there will be a noticeable difference. Maintaining motivation is key in obtaining macro goals and discovering your driving force will unlock new found potential.
