The Rise of Jam Bands And Why You Should Listen
As Plato stated, “Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything”.
” A rock band whose performances include long, unscripted, meandering segments which experiment with structure and sound. Jam bands typically play very long sets whose playlists are only vaguely defined by lists of “songs.”
As someone who has been an avid Jam Band listener for quite some time now, I assure you that this specific genre of music does not disappoint. Some of my favorite bands include Papadosio, The String Cheese Incident, Phish and Galactic. There are a plethora of Jam Bands out there and I would highly recommend giving a listen if you haven’t!
My introduction to this music originated a few years back when I first heard the String Cheese Incident.
They were performing a New Years Eve countdown set. I immediately became engrossed in the funky and earthy sounds the band produced.
While the music itself is reason enough to fall in love with this scene, the people I have met along the way who all share the love of this music with me are a huge culprit as to why I think this specific genre is so great. At shows and festivals, we come together as a family and create memories that not everyone can say they have experienced in their lifetime.
Society exposes us to a lot of crazy.
Race, gender, beliefs, opinions and thoughts are never good enough for some, or too much for others. When you dig down deep, it’s easy to realize that we are all the same. Giving a good, strong listen to lyrics, attending festivals and shows in which everyone comes together and lastly, opening up your mind can be some of the simplest ways to attempt at putting an end to the crazy.
I know everyone won’t agree with me that Jam Bands produce some of the best music out there.
Or that music really doesn’t make a difference in todays society. Papadosio has a song titled “Omni freeze” which has become my go to pick-me-up song. For whatever reason, the melodies take me back to my childhood. Whatever troubles I am facing are overcome with a sense of serenity and peace. It may sound odd and I can not quite explain it, but it’s real. I love that a four minute song can bring such contentment.
Music and what it can do is something I passionately stand for and I will continue to always do so. Opening up your mind as well as your eyes and ears creates a world of possibilities and thoughts.
