The Big Beauty Weekender – A Weekend of Makeup!
Until this year, I had no idea there were so many beauty events taking place in Birmingham and around the U.K.! I have attended a number of different shows throughout the year, many of which I have reviewed on my blog All Things Beauty and there are still a couple I will be attending before the year is out!
The Big Beauty Weekender took place on the first weekend of July and was the first of its kind. It featured free masterclasses, demonstrations and discounts on makeup across 5 major department stores – Debenhams, Selfridges, House of Fraser, John Lewis and Harvey Nichols. Everything was set out on Eventbrite and you could book a place on any demonstrations being held by a number of brands you liked over the weekend. More than 100 brands were involved!
I reviewed all the possible demonstrations and booked onto 5 working my way across Birmingham City Centre from store to store on Saturday and Sunday! It was a very busy couple of days but so worth it! I covered the following:
Chanel’s demonstration at House of Fraser
I knew Chanel was a good brand but after this demonstration, I was convinced! I was the actual model in the demonstration and the makeup artist created a look for the audience using the new Chanel skincare range and makeup range! Sadly I did not manage to get any pictures of the finished look but it was great to learn tips and tricks from an experienced makeup artist and the final look was lovely! All the products he used were excellent and I particularly loved the foundation coverage and finish and the skin care. If you’ve never tried Chanel, I highly recommend you do!
Stila Makeup’s Masterclass at Harvey Nichols
Next on the itinerary was the Stila demonstration! I have loved Stila as a brand for a while so I was very excited to see what they would be using and creating. The makeup artist created a full day to evening look using their newest Magnificent Matte and Metals palette and a Magnificent Metals Glitter Eyeshadow, both of which I have bought! You can see the final look above and it was really interesting learning more about the brand and how to use the products! Stila is definitely worth testing out if you have never tried their makeup!
Bobbi Brown’s Masterclass at John Lewis
Bobbi Brown is another favourite brand of mine and I have watched their demonstrations before. The makeup used in this session was the Summer collection comprising different 3 shade eyeshadow palettes designed for any skin tone. I have a lot of Bobbi Brown makeup so I knew the makeup quality was excellent but watching a skilled makeup artist explaining ways to use the eyeshadows to create different looks was a great learning experience – eye makeup is my speciality! I almost bought one of the palettes after the demonstration but refrained as I have so much makeup already!
Kat Von D’s demonstration at Debenhams
Kat Von D has fast become one of my preferred makeup brands! Everything I have ever bought from the brand has been excellent quality and beautifully designed. The demonstration I watched was for Kat Von D’s signature look – basically a big cat eye, flawless foundation and bold red lip! I did not get a chance to take pictures but it was amazing to watch, the makeup artist made it look so easy, especially the cat eye! I didn’t buy anything after the session as I already have what I want from the brand but I am always keeping an eye on her new releases!
As that was my last session of the day, I took a stroll around the other counters like Too Faced and Buxom! There were some lovely displays and products to try but again I was well behaved!
Charlotte Tilbury’s demonstration at Selfridges
Charlotte Tilbury is a gorgeous brand, both in terms of the makeup and the design. She has created some amazing products and her looks combinations are beautiful. I started collecting her products as soon as she came to Selfridges and I’ve never stopped! It was particularly exciting attending this masterclass as it involved using some of her newest releases! I took pictures of the model’s transformation and you can see that by the end she is glowing! The makeup artist used the eyebrow pencil and the contour and highlight wands, all of which I loved and have since purchased! This was probably one of my favourite sessions of the weekend and I would recommend having a makeup lesson at your nearest Charlotte Tilbury counter, you will love it!
After that masterclass, I had no further demonstrations booked but I did pay a visit to the Kiko Store! I love Kiko’s ranges and everything is so affordable! I also love their displays:
Look how many colours they carry and they are always releasing new and interesting collections. I have a number of Kiko items and cannot praise the quality enough!
And that was the end of a very fun and informative weekend! This event was really enlightening, well planned and if co-ordinated well you could watch a lot of masterclasses. Everything was free and there was actually no pressure to buy anything – it was more about teaching and learning and meeting some great makeup artists! I had a thoroughly enjoyable experience and can’t wait for the 2018 beauty weekender!
