The Birchbox 241 Offer – My Products Review!
Hi, again beauty lovers!
A little while ago, I shared a post with you about the beauty subscription box service, Birchbox and the products it offers. You can read it here and find out all the details about the service.
Through the course of this year, I have ordered Birchboxes on a regular basis. Over the summer months, they informed me by email that they were offering 2 for 1 boxes so I thought that was too good an offer to pass up and ordered them! I couldn’t wait to see what lovely products I would receive!
In each box, I received a lovely array of skincare, makeup, and hair care products. There were 5 items in one box, as always, and 6 in the other, as I was sent a bonus gift with the usual 5 products!
Box 1 contained the following products:
- A full-size Spectrum angled brush
- A full-size Loc Shadow Stick in Rock Steady
- A travel size Number 4tm Sugar Texturizing Spray
- A full-size Merci Handy Antibacterial Hand Cleansing Gel
- A travel size Huygens Supernature Cream
The Spectrum Brush
I love getting new makeup brushes! Spectrum is known as a great brand and prior to receiving this brush, I had already started building a small collection of their eye brushes. However, I had never tried the face brushes. This brush is angled so it works well in applying blusher and can also be used to contour. The bristles are really soft but retain their shape and the finished result is even and diffused. It’s a great brush and I have used it almost every day since I received it!
The Loc Shadow Stick
This eye shadow stick is lovely! I have never heard of this brand before but if this product can be relied upon then the brand must be good! The shadow stick is soft and creamy in texture, making it easy to apply, blend and smudge. The colour is a pretty deep taupe, which will suit most skin tones and it has a slight shimmer to it as well. After swatching it, it set and stayed in place for hours without rubbing off or bleeding – a big plus!
The Number 4tm Texturising Spray
This is another brand I have never heard of and I would not usually use a texturizing spray! That being said, I tested it out a few times after washing my hair and on dry hair and was pleasantly surprised! The spray did not make my hair scrunchy, tacky and brittle feeling but it did help to keep curls defined and long lasting. It also helped my hair to stay straighter for longer after using a straightening iron! All in all this product is pretty nifty and I will definitely use it again.
The Merci Hand Cleansing Gel
This gel is really refreshing and moisturising! When I have used similar hand gels before, they have left a slightly clammy feeling on my hands but this one is light, pleasantly scented and actually made my hands feel soft and hydrated. This, along with the obvious benefit that it is antibacterial means that it has stayed in my handbag all the time ready for use as and when!
The Huygens Supernature Cream
When I saw this product, I assumed it was a normal face cream. However, after using it I realised it is a bit different to the usual! The cream is quite thick and contains rose water – upon application instead of smoothing over the skin as other creams do it had a different texture, almost like the cream equivalent of a dry oil. It absorbed into the skin well and my skin definitely looked radiant after use but it did not feel really soft and deeply nourished in the conventional sense! What I can say is that I used it for a good few days and my skin did not react badly to it and looked bright and even after every use!
Box 2 contained the following products:
- A travel size Balance Me Flash Cleanse Micellar Water
- A travel size Percy & Reed Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Overnight Recovery
- A travel size Whish Renewing Mud Mask
- A travel size Unani Aloe Vera Body Gel
- A sample Nanette Lepore Eau de Parfum
- A bonus gift Benefit Cosmetics GoGo Tint
The Balance Me Micellar Water
I am a big fan of micellar water so when I received this I was pleased! I wear makeup most days so having good cleansing products is essential – this micellar water was as good as any I have tried and left my skin feeling clean and fresh with no residual makeup anywhere. The only thing it did not do, which I have found to be the case with many similar products, is remove eyelash glue! I find micellar oil much more effective in this, but aside from that, it was very good.
The Percy & Reed Overnight Recovery
This is the one product I have not tested yet but can’t wait to! It is a leave in deep conditioner that you apply at night and shampoo out in the morning. It is designed to not leave any residue on your bed linen and provide you with shiny, frizz free silky hair the next day! I will be trying this in the coming week to see if it lives up to its claims!
The Whish Mud Mask
I love face masks! 2017 has been a big skincare year for me, testing lots of lovely products – face masks were at the top of the list! This mask is similar to a charcoal mask in colour but is also exfoliating and filled with fruit enzymes. The texture is slightly grainy and it can be used just to gently scrub the skin or left on for up to 2 minutes as a mask. I used it both ways and in each case, my skin felt soft, clean and bright! I will happily keep using it!
The Unani Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe Vera is something I have started using more and more in the last 12 months. It is so versatile in its usages and never irritates my skin. I was really pleased to receive this as I have been suffering from dry skin and knew Aloe Vera would potentially help it. I have used this gel on the dry areas and slowly they are improving! It is also great for sore skin, burns and itchiness so always worth having in your supplies. This travel size is ideal for carrying in my handbag, which is what I now do!
The Nanette Lepore perfume
Generally, I am not much of a perfume wearer, even though I have a select few favourites! I do like testing samples though, so when I saw this I immediately applied it to see how it would smell once it settled on my skin. It has a reasonably heavy scent, with a hint of musk and fruits. After a few hours, I could still smell it which was lovely as some perfumes fade very quickly. It is definitely the type of fragrance I would wear so I would consider buying the full size in the future! If you like your florals it is one to try.
The Benefit GoGo Tint
Benefit is one of my favourite staple makeup brands and I have used their tints in the past. I tend to prefer powder and cream blushers as opposed to liquid ones so I did not buy the tints for long. I also prefer proper lipsticks and glosses to lip tints, as I find the latter drying! That being said, it is handy having a mini version of GoGo tint in your handbag as you can quickly apply it, no mess no fuss. As tints go, the Benefit ones are decent quality and do last after application. However, I would not buy the full size again as I know I wouldn’t use it.
Both boxes contained some great products, by brands I had not heard of, which I liked! There are always new developments in the beauty world so it is hard to keep up. Beauty boxes are a fun way to find out about new brands and products without the costly receipt! Birchbox is very good in this area and I will continue ordering from them as and when I like the look of a particular month’s box! If you haven’t tried Birchbox yet, why not give it a go – take a look at the website here.
