The Bliss Mask A’ Peel – Was it bliss?
Hi beauty lovers,
As well as makeup, I love other aspects of the beauty world, in this case, skin care! I have always been keen to look after my skin, especially as I have gotten older! This year I have taken a particular interest in trying new skin care products, for the body and face. The Bliss Mask A’ Peel is one such product!
This is only the second Bliss product I have tried – I previously tried their lip kit and had mixed feelings about it. However, this item intrigued me so I thought I would give Bliss another chance!
Who is Bliss?
Bliss is a multi channel spa and retail product company founded in 1996 and based in New York. Whilst their focus is running spas, they also recognise that not everyone can get to a spa so they have created a variety of spa quality products to be used at home! From skin care and body care to makeup, they have a range for everything and nothing is tested on animals.
The Mask A’ Peel is from the skin care range and there are 2 types, the complexion clearing version which is the subject of this post and the radiance revealing version. Both retail at $30 and each pack contains 3 sets of the mask powder. The benefit of these particular masks is that the paste can reach all the crevices and contours of the face ensuring a deep clean.
Mask A’Peel Complexion Clearing Rubberizing Mask
The complexion clearing mask contains tea tree oil, seaweed, willow and menthol with the aim of leaving a clear, healthy looking complexion once the mask is literally peeled off! Inside the box you receive the following:
There are 3 pots of the mask powder and Bliss recommends using the mask once a week.
Inside the pot is a pale green powder with a faint minty scent:
In order to turn it into a mask, you add cool water up to a specified waterline on the pot and then mix the contents until you achieve a smooth paste. It is really important to ensure you add the correct amount of water and do so slowly to ensure you can reach the right consistency. I mixed the ingredients for nearly a minute and did eventually obtain the perfect paste with no lumps or residual powder:
Once I had mixed everything, I then applied the paste to my face. What I found was that as long as you acted quickly, the paste applied to the face reasonably easily and spread across the skin with the spatula. It was a little tricky using the spatula around the nose area so next time I would probably use my fingers or a smaller spatula. The consistency was gooey and spongy to start with, but the paste did start to rubberize within a couple of minutes in the pot. At that point, it became pretty impossible to apply. I managed to use 90% of the mix before this – had I used the whole pot I would have covered my entire face without problem:
On my skin, it felt cooling and tingly but not in an unpleasant way. The instructions advise to leave it on for 15-20 minutes. During that time it set and I could feel a slight tightening sensation. After the allotted time it looked like this:
Where the paste was thinnest I could see the drying effect, mainly around the edges. The next part was the fun part! Peeling the mask was very satisfying!
You can see in the video, the mask peeled off well! The only areas where it failed to peel easily were the dryer and thinner areas. I was able to remove the mask in those places using a wet face cloth. When I examined the peeled mask remnants, I could see some evidence that my pores had been de-clogged and dirt had been removed! These photos are a little graphic so look away if you’re squeamish!
The second photo, in particular, shows areas of my chin that were ‘cleaned’ and unclogged. This is great for me as my chin is my trouble area!
Before & After
After rinsing my skin, I have to say it felt gorgeous! It was smooth and plump and I could visibly see my skin was brighter. The area around my nose was especially smooth and I could see my pores were clearer. Here’s the before and after:
Hopefully, you can see that my skin looks clearer, brighter and smoother after the mask compared to before it! It certainly felt better and the results lasted all day.
So, was this mask blissful? I would have to say yes! I cannot say it was completely straightforward to apply but I feel pretty confident the second time I use it will be much simpler. The results were better than expected and it was worth the extra effort of mixing the paste and having fun applying it to achieve the beautiful skin texture and glowing complexion!
All in all, I would definitely recommend trying this mask and my faith in the brand is somewhat restored! I have already bought the second peel off mask to try and will happily try other products. If you are interested in testing some of the ranges click here.
