The Nintendo Switch Impresses The Gaming World!
Move over Playstation and Xbox; make way for the new console in town!
Nearly a month after its release, the Nintendo Switch has managed to sell over 2 million units. The console is the latest edition to the Nintendo family, with capabilities that are new to the video gaming world. The first of its kind, the hybrid system gives gamers the option to play on-the-go or in the comfort of their own home.
Initially, the mystery console was announced as the Nintendo NX when it was revealed to the public back in June 2016. A new addition to The Legend of Zelda series, Breath of Wild, was one of the first titles that was previewed on the NX at the time. Gamers were excited that the series was releasing a new title and were also intrigued by the beautiful gameplay.
Since its release back in March, Breath of the Wild has sold over 2.75 million copies for the Switch and over one million copies for the Wii U. To add to an exciting lineup of titles, Mario Kart 8 was also re-released as “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” for the Switch on Friday. The title sold over 450,000 digital and physical copies combined on its launch day, according to The Verge.
In comparison to the Switch’s predecessor, the Wii U, the Switch has sold more copies in it’s first month than the Wii U did in its first year, according to CNBC. Nintendo released a statement revealing how surprised they were about the Switch’s success.
“We have done a lot of things to raise awareness about how the Switch experience can offer something new,” Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima said to the Wall Street Journal. “I am relieved that consumers seem to have accepted it.”
The Switch’s demands have been so high, the console has had limited availability in stores since its release. However, consumers have been able to purchase it through websites such as Amazon, eBay, and third-party sellers on Craigslist. Hopefully the console can begin to meet the demands of the public, and will be readily be available on shelves soon.
