This Summer’s Objective: Volunteering
While for most of us, the summer represents the ideal time for fun, travel, and beach, for others, they still have to work. Looking at it from a certain perspective, volunteering really can be fun, can be done while traveling and yes, it can take place also on a beach.
Be prepared though, it’s not always just fun and entertaining, and if you expect it to be all about that, you should reconsider the idea.
I strongly believe that in order to be engaged in a volunteering program you first need to reach a certain level of maturity and identify in yourself a healthy set of values, or desire strong enough to take this step. Values such as empathy, good-will and honesty are some assets that I believe a volunteer does possess. It is these values that give them the drive they need to do such admirable activities.
Believing in the work you are about to start as a volunteer, will help you grow as a person and take those above mentioned qualities to a higher level, to eventually make a positive impact through hard-work and involvement.
Whether it is a short or long time you commit for, I’m certain there will be a lesson you will learn from the experience. You might discover your true calling, meet people with similar interests or both.
Volunteering is also a wonderful way of keeping ourselves healthy both physically and mentally thanks to the fact that we get the chance to experiencing personal growth and fulfillment, a contributor to our self esteem. All this happens in a friendly environment, where different people form a community that has the same aim.
I urge myself as much as I urge you: identify where would suit you the best to volunteer, bite the bullet, and just do it. You won’t be able to change the whole world, but you do have the power to change the world of at least one single human being.
